| Introduction
Lupus Australia aims to facilitate people who are living with lupus learning about the disease. “What does the disease do?”, “How will it affect my lifestyle?”, and “How do I manage the disease for a better quality of life?” are all questions that your local lupus organisation can help you with.
You will find much of the information on this website however if you would like to speak to someone about your particular case you can contact the lupus organisation in your state.
We provide an information and counselling support service for those who have recently been diagnosed as well as those who have been living with lupus for some
time.
What is Lupus? - Lupus is an autoimmune disease. A normal healthy immune system recognises and destroys foreign objects like bacteria and viruses. With autoimmune diseases, however, the immune system starts to attack objects that are not foreign. Hence the term "auto" (self)
"immune".
